Direct contact with sodium hydroxide can lead to severe burns to the eyes, skin, digestive system, and lungs, and may cause permanent damage or death. Repeated inhalation of sodium hydroxide vapor can lead to permanent lung damage. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Always wear protective gear (protective eyewear, gloves, and clothes). If exposed, rinse eyes thoroughly with water for at least 10 to 15 minutes, keeping eyelids open. Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Please note that dissolution of sodium hydroxide in water is highly exothermic and the released heat may react with explosion hazards. Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed.
